Club News:

 

  • Amateur Radio Club -application packets are due by the end of this month to Mrs. Cavin in the library. She'll need to confirm membership before the first club event in October.

 

  • Student council members- you must have your dues paid by TOMMOROW.

 

  • Freshmen class, your class officer elections are next week. Pay attention to the posters hanging around campus to familiarize yourself with the candidates. You will be choosing the people who will be your voice at WMHS throughout the year. We will vote Tuesday, September 26 during 2nd period.

 

  • Junior Civitans -the fair sign up sheet has now been placed outside of Mrs. Beach's room (6206). Members should come by to make sure they have signed up for a shift. Also, if you are interested in helping with the Special Needs Day at the Fair on October 4th, the sign up sheet has been posted on our Google Classroom. Spaces are limited. See Mrs. Beach if you have any questions.

 

  • There will be a Rebel Art Club meeting Tuesday, Sept 26th after school until 4:15. 

There are still a few member spots available. If you’d like join, pick up an application from Mrs. Lengenfeld. If you haven’t turned in your application or dues, please get those to Mrs. Lengenfeld in Room 1109 or bring them to the meeting Tuesday. Also, please add yourself to the Rebel Art Club Google Classroom. See Mrs. Lengefeld for the class code.

  • Next Tuesday, Sept 26th, we will have our first annual Paper Airplane Contest at lunch! Anyone who would like to participate just needs to come prepared with your own paper plane. Your plane should be made from 1 normal sized sheet of copy paper and can only have minor taping if needed. Make sure to add your name to your plane. There will also be stations set up under the boardwalk for you to learn to make a plane if you want to join in on the fun. Feel free to start googling plane designs now and practicing. There will be prizes for the planes that fly the furthest!

 

  • Would you like to help out our community and donate blood? Did you know that 25% of the blood supply is used by patients who are battling cancer? Your blood donation could impact the life of someone you know! Our school is having a Blood Drive on Thurs Oct 5th.To donate blood,  you must be 16 years old or older. Stop by Mrs. Nix’s classroom (3105) to get more information and to register. You must pre-register to donate. 

 

News from Testing: 

 

  • The PSAT will be given at West Monroe High School on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at 7:45 am in Edgewood.  

All students in 11th grade honors/AP classes are strongly encouraged to take this test.  Registration ends Friday, October 6th.  Students must register with their English teacher to take the test  and pay their $30 registration on-line. If you have any questions, please see your English III teacher. 


 

News from Guidance:

 

  • ULM is also hosting their "Browse on the Bayou" Event on Saturday, September 30th. This is another free opportunity to tour ULM and learn about the academic and student life on campus, and enjoy the game! If you are interested in attending this event, please register online at ulm.edu

 

  • The Deadline to Register for the October ACT is TOMMORROW..

 

  • Students have some opportunities coming up to visit with College Recruiters, Military Recruiters, and Internship programs. There will be some “meet and greet” sessions during lunch breaks where you can visit with the recruiters, get some resources, and/or have questions answered.

News from Classes: 

 

  • Attention all students taking a dual enrollment course this semester through ULM or LA Tech: It's time to start paying for your DE coursework if you are taking over the allotted amount that Ouachita Parish School Board will pay. As a reminder, OPSB is paying for the following this semester: Seniors- 3 classes, Juniors- 2 classes.  If you have an overage, that cost is $150 per course that you are over, and your payment will go to ULM. You may pay by check(making your payment to ULM) and give it to Mrs. Hunt or pay online through your ULM account. If paying by check, write your full name on the memo line. Payments are due by Wednesday, Oct. 4. If you have a question about how much you owe, talk to one of your dual enrollment teachers or Mrs. Hunt. 

  • Attention all students enrolled in AP courses, the deadline to join AP classroom is TOMORROW.  This is mandatory for all AP students.   Also, the $40 deposit for each exam is due by October 25th.  This deposit is non-refundable and must be paid for each AP course are enrolled in. You can make payment at the Online School Payments page located under quick links at gorebs.org.  Once these deadlines have passed, there will be additional late fees added to your accounts. Please take care of this now and do not wait until the last day.  If you have any questions reach out to your AP teacher, or email Mr. Lovelady at zacharylovelady@opsb.net

 

News from Sports: 

 

  • Just a reminder that softball will have open practices the next 2 Thursdays,  today  and next Thursday , if you are interested in trying out for softball. Practice will be at the softball field from 3:45 until 5:45. In order to participate you must turn in the completed packet that you received from Coach Pate or Coach Daigle prior to practice. 

 

  • Friday, the Varsity Football team plays Scotlandville at home. It’s Senior Night for our Spirit Groups. Be sure to come support our team and classmates.
